IT PINOYs might have been amazed with how the two major (warring!) networks brought the recent Philippine Automated National Elections yesterday with the use of “virtual presence” and “hologram” technologies.
in the last days before the election, GMA-7 boasted of it’s expensive set and eventually surprised everyone with it’s hologram effect of reporting (it looked like a scene from star wars!). well, this wasn’t really new as CNN used the same technology in the 2008’s US election and was actually based on a chroma-key technology that’s been taken “to the Nth degree.”
chroma-key is a technique for mixing two images or frames together, in which a color from one image is removed (or made transparent), revealing another image behind it. this technology is commonly used for weather forecast broadcasts, wherein the presenter appears to be standing in front of a large map, but in the studio it is actually a large blue or green background.
ABS-CBN 2 on the other hand used a technology called “virtual presence.” Joel Lamdani, vice president of Orad Hi-Tech Systems Ltd., explained that virtual presence is a feature of an advanced technology called Augmented Reality (AR), which blurs the line between what’s real and what’s computer-generated by enhancing what we see, hear, feel and smell.
unlike GMA-7s hologram, which was taken from an adjacent room, ABS-CBN 2’s virtual presence was taken on a live field report, which was way kewler!!
ABS-CBN 2 also had a gigantic touch screen and a “war room” that looked like those we see in big hollywood movies like “Armageddon” and “Apollo 13.”
like how Comelec succeeded with automating our national elections, these new innovations are definitely a treat for all IT PINOYs as finally we have these technologies on our local tv’s. thought there’s still more cleanup to do (compared with CNN’s hologram) nonetheless, kudos to both stations for bringing their news reports to the next level – world-class!!!

TV5 first used the TOUCH screen n LED in their AKSYON SA KASAYSAYAn then followed by GMA for their YOUSCOOP then by the ABS-CBn for the comments they get from SOCIAL NETWORK. We can say that GMA HOLOGRAM is FAKE but GMA is the first NETWORK in the country used that. Then when ABS saw it they also find ways to have it they used it on afternoon while GMA in morning. GMA has IPAD they used it for viewing comments tweets and messages from social networks. IN PARTIAL UNOFFICIAL TALLY GMA is the first party to release the partial and unofficial count from COMELEC. they have a special software made just from ELECTION RESULTS. THeir computer is connected to PPCRV(and we all know that PPCRV is the only watchdog that is accredited by COMELEC for this election). WHEN the results where received by GMA computer their software automatically tally the results. So they are faster to release result than comelec. On the other hand, ABSCBN results are from COMELEC so their results ar quite slow than GMA. s EXIT POLLS nmn tau TV5 has commisioned SWS Survey sponsored by PLDT-Smart to do the polls. while ABS commisioned PULSE Asia to do the polls in partnership with BAYAN Com. The BOTTOM LINE is so far the FIRST AUTOMATED EELECTION in our country is GENERALLY SUCCESFUL despite the troubles in SOUTHERN part of our country and COMELEC HOTSPOTs. IN THIS ELECTION voter's turn-out is 75% which is relevantly high than past elections. I CONGRATULATE COMELEC for a JOB WELL DONE.
IF THEY USE HOLOGRAM, A PERSON WHO IS LOCATED IN A REMOTE PLACE MUST APPEAR VISIBLY IN THE STUDIO.But BASED in MY OBSERVATION, it's not a true hologram, mR. mIKE e. was just pretending that he saw the reporter in the studio. They only talk about the technology over in a place, which while impressive, it just goes to show you how GMA and others can lie to people by not telling the whole truth.

First I congratulate ABS-CBN for an admiring, well planned, accurate and high technologically oriented election coverage last May 10 2010. C'mon guys… Let us all admit, Philippines is one the countries to adapt technology in late. But the mere fact that the 2 networks introduce that “kind” was a great job for both! But the main issue is that, “what was the reality behind virtual presence versus hologram that ABS-CBN and GMA used?” People must understand why IT people or non IT people criticized or even corrected GMA for the terminology since they are trying to give people the “precise information” which exist do today.It's not bad to debate such things and it's not even being “mababaw” as Filipinos to discussed this kind of issue because this is a big thing! And it's such ashamed if we got being reported by people from other countries for disinformation with regard to the terminology. This one is a very good example for boastful guys, and hope people will learn that before sharing information to others especially in public, please rest assured and have it surely confirmed by not just one IT person but as many as you can to get it accurately.
