Philippines Losses $202M due to Software Piracy

Business Software Alliance (BSA) just reported that software piracy in the Philippines remain @ 69% in 2008 but revenue losses increased to $202mil.

However, it was noted that the growing usage of both laptops & netbooks were helping drive down piracy, mainly because these mobile devices have pre-installed operating systems.

“There should be more efforts to educate the public about the effects of piracy not just in the software industry but also in the economy of the country,” BSA Philippines Consultant Bienvenido Marquez III said.

I personally urge my fellow IT PINOYs to please say NO TO PIRACY, we’re not actually helping the country by supporting these pirates…
