Twitter Survives DoS Attack!

two of the most dominant social networking tools right now – Twitter and Facebook encountered attacks and performance degradation yesterday.

the report came after Twitter had to be down for more than 2hours. co-founder Biz Stone has this to say, “On this otherwise happy Thursday morning, Twitter is the target of a denial of service attack.”

denial of service (DoS) is a way to disable a resource thus making it unavailable. one common method (of attack) involves saturating the target machine with external requests until it reaches it’s threshold and responds so slowly as to be rendered effectively unavailable.

this was what happened yesterday and in effect slowed down Facebook as its’ service calls to Twitter was getting denied….
