The anime most grew up to is now a Live Action television series, Voltes V: Legacy is currently in pre-production under Philippine TV network GMA!
Initially aired on June 1977, Chōdenji Machine Voltes V or more popularly known as Voltes V (pronounced “Voltes Five”)
Plot:
In a distant stellar system lies the planet Boazan, whose social system where those with horns are considered nobles and of high status, while the hornless are treated as slaves. When La Gour was about to ascend the throne, he was exposed to be hornless (by his ambitious bastard cousin Zu Zambajil), which led to his downfall and eventually he started a rebellion against the empire. He escaped and found himself on Earth, where he married a local woman Mitsuyo Go.
La Gour who now goes as Professor Kentaro Go feared Zambajil’s interplanetary conquest ambitions, thus collaborated with his wife as well as premier Earth scientist Professor Hamaguchi and Earth International Defense Force commander General Oka to design and construct the ultimate defense against the potential incoming Boazanian invasion.
Ten years later, the Boazanians finally came to Earth. Professor Hamaguchi gathered the three children of Kentaro: Kenichi, Daijiro and Hiyoshi along with two other members: Ippei and Megumi at the fortress island base “Camp Big Falcon” to pilot Kentaro’s latest creation and humanity’s final hope: Voltes V.
Trivia:
Voltes V was the very first anime shown on Philippine television. In April 1979, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos issued a directive banning Voltes V and other similarly themed anime series, ostensibly due to concerns about “excessive violence” and “harmful effects on children”. hmmm I pretty much grew up quite well! 😛
