what it takes to make one google query

it has been revealed that a single google query consumes the processing power of 1000 machines!

google‘s jeff dean, also shared some growth numbers from 1999 to 2009 and that while both search queries and processing power have gone up by a factor of 1000, latency has gone down from around 1000ms to 200ms.

every time you perform a query, it will hit it’s server farm which is around 700 – 1000 machines across different
google data centers before returning the search results on your screen – and the whole process takes just less than a second!
